A Miraculous Catch

Updated: May 21

Peter’s transformation reveals what happens when grace overcomes guilt. In this powerful sermon from John 21, we explore faith, restoration, and the calling to follow Christ—even when He’s not "in the boat."

As we continue our series on the 40 days between Jesus' resurrection and ascension, we reflect on Peter's evolving relationship with Jesus—from the fearful response in Luke 5, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man,” to the bold leap from the boat in John 21, when he swims to the risen Christ.

Through the contrast of two nearly identical miraculous catches, Pastor Jim unpacks the transformation of Peter’s heart. We’re reminded that God's holiness doesn’t repel us—it reveals our need for Him. Jesus isn't a distant judge, but a loving Savior who invites us into restored relationship and mission.

This message explores how Jesus prepared His disciples to become apostles, no longer relying on His physical presence, but learning to trust in the power of the Holy Spirit. Just like Peter, we’re called to move from hiding in our shame to running toward grace. And while we may not all be apostles, we are all invited to live with the faith of an apostle.
